If you're planning exterior improvements to your home, then there are a lot of siding options to consider. Composite Siding

Composite siding is an exterior siding or cladding option that is growing in popularity across the country. Tax Credits for Replacement Energy Efficient Windows

Incredible incentives to update your home

Homeowners who purchase replacement renewable energy products from Bruin Corp. of Framingham could qualify for tax credits that have been extended through December 31, 2021.

These tax credits are known as Nonbusiness Energy Property Credit and were enacted to help offset the cost of home improvements designed to reduce a household's overall carbon footprint.

What Qualifies?

To qualify for the energy credit for windows, the materials and equipment used for the upgrade must meet the requirements and standards set forth by the Department of Energy. Bruin Corp. of Framingham knows these standards and will be able to help you choose qualifying items for your next install. Your upgrades will also have to be determined to be a qualified energy efficiency improvement, but you do not have to replace all the windows/doors/skylights in your home to qualify. Your window and skylight upgrades must however be ENERGY STAR certified.

How to Claim Your Tax Credits?

Tax credits for replacement windows and skylights provide an incredible incentive to update your home, improve your energy efficiency and improve your home's overall aesthetics. Please contact a tax professional if you have previously claimed an energy efficiency tax credit or visit www.irs.gov to find out your eligibility for this credit.

Follow these guidelines to receive your residential energy tax credits:

Current tax credit may be applied to windows and skylights installed between January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2021.
Save Your Receipts and the Manufacturer's Certification Statement.
Submit IRS Tax Form 5695 with your taxes.
Learn more about the qualification criteria at www.irs.gov , and/or consult a tax advisor.

Limitations

Must be ENERGY STAR certified.
Tax credit is for the cost of the product only. The credit does not include installation costs.
Tax credit is 10% of the amount paid up to the maximums listed below.
$500 total maximum lifetime tax credit for any and all improvements, including other eligible items as listed in the Section 25C of the Internal Revenue Code:

$200 total maximum tax credit for qualifying windows and skylights
$500 total maximum tax credit for all qualifying improvements, including windows or skylights

4. If a combination of windows and skylights are purchased, then the total maximum credit is $500, of which $200 is the maximum allowable for windows and skylights.

5. The tax credit is an extension of the 26 U.S.C. §25C tax credit, which means all previous federal tax credits are a lifetime maximum credit. A homeowner who has already claimed the maximum applicable tax credits permitted under 26 U.S.C. §25C in previous tax years is no longer eligible for this tax credit.

Why Does Snow Melt Faster on Some Roofs?

Does snow melt faster on your roof than your neighbors?

Winter can show you a lot about your house that you cannot see at other times throughout the year. Now is a good time to look at your roof and see where your home is leaking heat.

If you notice snow that seems to be melting in specific spots on your roof you’ve got a situation where heat is escaping there due to poor or lack of insulation or a failing roofing system. Ideally, snow should melt according to the outside temperature, not influenced by the temperature inside your home. If the snow on your roof is melting at an inconsistent rate to your neighbor’s home, you have some investigating to do!

Another sign of insulation issues!

Because the snow is melting from a heat loss on your roof and not because of warming temperatures, the melted snow can refreeze once it travels from your roof, creating ice dams that appear as icicles on the eaves and gutters. Water trapped by these ice dams will travel between shingles or under soffits eventually appearing as water dripping into your ceiling or walls.

Check your attic insulation

If your attic is not properly insulated you might have patchy spots of melting snow where it is doing a better job of trapping heat and where it is allowing heat to escape. Check your attic space and look at the amount of insulation that is installed. If you can see your ceiling joists and walk around, you probably don’t have enough and it's time to give us a call.

The project included a full external renovation of this 1951 Cape Style home.

1. Windows

Replaced all the original 1950's windows with the latest SofLlite Classic Double-Hung windows. What is immediately apparent about a SoftLite double-hung window is its stylish beauty. 2. Roofing

Replaced the original pitched roof with GAF Architectural Shingles, that included the latest technology Leak Barrie, Roof Deck Protection, Timberline HD Shingles, and Cobra Attic Ventilation.

We also replaced the existing flat Rubber Roof with the latest technology Rubberoid Roof System that is strong and resilient to the New England weather.

3. Siding

Replaced the original exterior with CertainTeed Cedar Impression shingles. These Straight Edge Perfection Shingles are the industry's first polymer shingles that feature an innovative, blended color throughout, giving that low-maintenance authentic cedar shingle look. We then completed the siding finish with PVC trim through-out.

Insulation and air sealing decreases your energy use, saves you money, keeps you cooler in the summer, and warmer in the winter. It also keeps your heating and cooling equipment from working overtime, which translates to energy savings.

However, many existing homes fall short when it comes to meeting the amount of recommended insulation despite the advantages that come with proper insulation levels. The EPA estimates homeowners can save up to 15 percent in heating and cooling costs by air sealing and adding insulation.

The US Department of Energy recommendations for insulation levels are dependent upon climate zone. For example, in Massachusetts, with our warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters, it is recommended to have more insulation in your home than someone in Florida or Virginia.

Your home should have insulation throughout, and different areas require more or less. Your attic, which is an area where heat easily escapes, requires the most insulation. Exterior walls, on the other hand, don’t need as much, but should still be insulated.

Today (May 31st, 2019) we're launching our new logo, as we start to refresh our look. We loved our old logo but after 38 Years it was time for an update.

Our first logo was created when the company launched in 1981. It was distinctive, and playful, and stood the test of time for decades. However, it's become dated and inconsistently used.

So our leadership, together with the team from Juuced, worked to create a new and more cohesive visual identity. And today we're excited to share our new look.

It uses a simpler color palette and, we believe, is more refined, but still contains the spirit of the original. It's an evolution, and one that can scale easily, and work better, in more places.
